Expert: Foreign video services to cost Russians more if fees apply
MOSCOW, Nov 24 (PRIME) -- An initiative of charging fees from foreign video services in favor of Russian connection operators is economically clear, but it could raise payments of users of these platforms, Internet ombudsman Dmitry Marinichev told PRIME on Wednesday.
Media reported earlier that the Digital Development Ministry suggested introducing for foreign streaming services and online cinemas a payment for traffic in favor of the national connection operators.
“I think, that the measure is understandable, it speaks volumes in favor of the national companies, but this imbalance would affect users directly, we’ll pay more for information services that are abroad,” Marinichev said.
